The Phoenix Lights 13 Years LaterBy Grant Lawrence “It was enormous and inexplicable. Who knows where it came from? A lot of people saw it, and I saw it too.” Former Arizona Governor Fife Symington Over the last several years, since the Phoenix Lights incident on March 13th in 1997, there have been reports of more Phoenix lights. But nothing compares to the formations that flew over Arizona for hours 13 years ago.Thousands saw those lights and some thought that perhaps it was an alien invasion. After the incident, Arizona’s Governor Fife Symington made a joke about the Phoenix Lights by having a costumed alien appear at a press conference. Later in 2007, Symington admits that the Lights were no joke.“….It was dramatic. And it couldn’t have been flares because it was too symmetrical.” The former Arizona Governor revealed the object to be a “craft of unknown origin.”While Symington hasn’t been the only political figure in Arizona to comment on the Phoenix Lights, he stands alone in his admission that they were more than just flares. When asked to comment on the Phoenix Lights in 2000, Senator John McCain said, “That has never been fully explained.” He also quickly added, “But I have to tell you that I do not have any evidence whatsoever of aliens or UFOs….” Source: The Truth is Out There modération : page non trouvéeFife Symington says he feels sorry for making a joke of the incident but he felt he needed to do something to alleviate the hysteria that was developing.I believe Symington is not coming completely clean on why he made a joke of the whole Phoenix Lights incident.Former Phoenix Councilwoman Frances Barwood made a serious effort to have the Lights investigated and she says she was stonewalled in every way by various government agencies. It is likely that Symington didn’t just decide to make a mockery of the Lights, but that he was told by other highly placed government officials to use the same propaganda ploy that had been used for decades. He was likely told to make a joke of the Phoenix Lights because ridicule has been an effective tool to shut down serious UFO inquiry.Still no matter how many government officials, astronauts, pilots, police officers and other credible witnesses recount amazing UFO encounters and no matter how many government documents also recount amazing incidences, there will always be those that deny the truth that our skies are being occupied by flying systems that go beyond human control. The United States government can continue to lie about Roswell, the Phoenix Lights, the Stephensville Sightings, and the mass of sightings that are reported yearly. The alien entities don’t likely care either way. Either way, the ETs will continue to operate in plain sight.
Phoenix Lights UFO Mystery 2007: Former AZ Gov Symington Admits To Seeing “Craft Of Unknown Origin”On March 13, 1997, unexplained lights appeared over Phoenix, Arizona. I was in town when the mysterious event took place. While authorities would like you to believe that these were merely military flares, former Arizona Governor Fife Symington says there is much more to the story.Symington now admits that he was among the hundreds of witnesses who saw a huge triangular object in the skies over Phoenix. The former Governor made a number of statements about the Phoenix Lights mystery to Leslie Kean, Special Correspondent to The Prescott Daily Courier. The statements were included in an article by Kean published in the Courier on March 18, 2007. In that article, the former Arizona Governor describes what he saw on March 13, 1997:“It was enormous and inexplicable,” he said. “Who knows where it came from? A lot of people saw it, and I saw it too.”Symington was referring to a V-shaped object with lights on it seen in the skies over Phoenix ten years ago. Some estimated the lights to be the size of a football field, while others said they could have been a mile long. He continued to describe his own sighting of the triangular object: “It was dramatic. When asked to comment on the Phoenix Lights in 2000, Senator John McCain said, “That has never been fully explained.” He also quickly added, “But I have to tell you that I do not have any evidence whatsoever of aliens or UFOs.”Fife Symington says he called the commander of Luke Air Force Base, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and a General with the Arizona National Guard back in 1997 to ask about the lights. None of them were able to provide him with any answers and seemed “perplexed.” One of the problems with the sightings were the multitude of explanations available at the time. The V-shaped object with lights was seen in the sky around 8:30pm. The lights that were videotaped and seen around 10:30pm are what most people call the Phoenix Lights. These are often explained away as flares, but not everyone agrees. People that videotaped the 10:30pm event back in 1997 say the lights were in a triangular shape. Some of them had seen military flares being dropped on other occasions and say this was something completely different. However, authorities stayed with the flares explanation and explained the earlier events as a sighting of the Hale-Bopp Comet.Synmington called for an investigation into the Phoenix Lights shortly after the sightings occurred, but the statement was a hollow one. Either he was not able to obtain cooperation from military authorities, or he never made much of an effort. However, with pressure mounting from the public, UFO researchers and news gathering organizations, he had to eventually take some action. On June 19, 1997, Governor Fife Symington held a press conference in Phoenix. Dressing one of his aides up as an Alien, the Governor said that the Phoenix Lights were flares and nothing to get upset about. He also said that he was only joking when he ordered the Arizona Department of Public Safety (Arizona State Police) to investigate the sightings. Today, he still defends those actions.“I wanted people to lighten up and calm down, so I introduced a little levity. But I never felt that the overall situation was a matter of ridicule,” Symington says about the infamous press conference. But not everyone was laughing. Former Phoenix Councilwoman Frances Barwood made a serious effort to investigate the sightings in 1997.According to her recent statements, Barwood was unable to convince federal authorities to interview even one of the seven hundred witnesses that she spoke to about the Phoenix Lights. Big surprise! Being an elected official isn’t enough when it comes to getting answers about UFOs from the Military. Just ask current Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano.Janet Napolitano called for an investigation into the Phoenix Lights during her 1997 campaign to become Arizona Attorney General and was elected to that office in 1998. Despite her former position as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, we can assume that she was served the same plate of disinformation from the U.S. Military that the rest of us received. What does she think of Symington’s new revelation and the Phoenix Lights overall? We have asked and are awaiting her answer. My own experience earlier that day was frightening and likely related to one or both the sightings of March 13, 1997. I was driving in from Flagstaff (north to south) on I-17 in the early afternoon. On a day when traffic was already heavy and almost at a standstill, State Patrol vehicles suddenly appeared and caused vehicles to pull over to the far right lanes. A few minutes later, military vehicles filled with troops and equipment covered by tarps went flying by at high speeds. The military procession lasted several minutes.I was later told by other drivers who attended a seminar I was giving in Phoenix that the same thing happened that night and the next day. Others who attended my seminar reported being almost ‘buzzed’ by the lights while driving on various local roadways. They described huge balls of light which seemed to come down very low and keep pace with traffic. Apart from all the witness reports, more than a few people took photos and video of the Phoenix Lights.Huge triangular objects have been a constant part of the UFO phenomenon from the very beginning. Some believe the triangle sightings date to prehistory and many point to sightings that may have occurred in the late 1800s. Most witnesses at that time assumed they were experimental kites of some sort. Then, there were all the unexplained triangle sightings in the 1950s, with and without lights. Two of the most famous involved the U.S. and British Military.Beginning on September 13, 1952, Military Personnel aboard ships involved in NATO Operation Mainbrace saw and tracked a triangular shaped object flying at over 900 mph between Denmark and Norway. Witnesses said the object emitted a bright white light. There were additional UFO sightings during the NATO exercise as well which may have included saucer and cigar shaped crafts. In July of 1955, a dark colored boomerang hovered completely still over Lasham Airfield, Hampshire, England, during the National Gliding Competitions. Seen by trained military observers, experienced civilian pilots and untrained spectators, the object hovered for thirty seconds before moving off to the southwest.A triangular-shaped UFO captured the attention of the world’s press in November of 1989 when a huge, dark triangle with sparkling bright lights underneath was seen by citizens and police in Liege, Belgium. More sightings followed. In 1990, Belgium Military Officials announced that two F-16 jet fighters scrambled from a NATO base chased a triangular shaped object for over an hour. One jet locked the object in on radar. On the pilot’s screen it looked like a diamond. There have been recent sightings of unexplained lights near Phoenix and triangular shaped craft over New Mexico and other parts of the Southwest. The International Paranormal UFO Society asks anyone with information about the Phoenix Lights, triangular-shaped craft or other unexplained events related to the 1997 or current sightings to email us at ipus@CanYouStandTheTruth.com or write to: IPUS, PO Box 203, Lebannon IN 46052. Phoenix lights UFO : Experiment, acclimation ?by Steve Hammons Posted: 12:25 March 9, 2010What was flying over Arizona and Phoenix the evening of March 13, 1997 ? Was it a formation of several aircraft with odd bright lights ? If so, there seem to be several unusual aspects to the flight. Was it one huge triangle, boomerang or V-shaped craft? If so, was it a U.S. advanced aircraft or spacecraft of some kind? Was it an extraterrestrial craft? Was it some combination of both? The so-called "Phoenix lights" case is widely recognized as one of the more interesting incidents involving unidentified flying objects. The upcoming 13th anniversary of the incident on Saturday, March 13, 2010, offers an opportunity to review and consider a range of information that has surfaced.PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS For example, a recent article on the Phoenix lights UFO incident by long-time researcher, writer and editor Randall Fitzgerald brings forward more information on this interesting case. Fitzgerald is a former editor for Reader's Digest and is the author of several nonfiction books related to government, health and science. His articles have appeared in major mainstream media publications.Part One of his recent article on Examiner.com "Were the 1997 Arizona Lights a psychological warfare experiment?" was posted on Feb. 24, 2010. Part Two was posted on Feb. 28.In the article, Fitzgerald presents more details from his 1997 two-month fulltime investigation on the case that was funded by Reader's Digest where he served at the time as "roving editor." He reports that he interviewed more than 50 witnesses. Some key points emerge in Fitzgerald's investigation. He says that although many credible witnesses saw what they were sure was one massive flying object or craft, witnesses who used binoculars saw individual lights and apparent individual aircraft of some kind....
'Phoenix lights' UFO case 13th anniversary is March 13Steve HammonsMarch 09, 2010The 13th anniversary of the so-called "Phoenix lights" UFO incident is next Saturday, March 13.As usual at this time each year, the case is revisited by many researchers, writers and interested people. In addition, the National Geographic Channel is airing an episode of its new show "Mysterious Science" about the Phoenix lights incident. Also, respected researcher, journalist and editor Randall Fitzgerald recently wrote an extensive article (available online) with the headline "Were the 1997 Arizona Lights a psychological warfare experiment?" Fitzgerald covers some interesting new information and theories. As part of this discussion, I thought it might be interesting to include a chapter on the Phoenix lights case from my first novel, "Mission Into Light" (published in 2001). I would add that on March 13, 1997, I was living in an area of metro Phoenix's "Valley of the Sun" that was in the line of the flight path of this object or objects. However, I must not have been looking up at the evening sky at the right time and did not observe the anomalous sight reported by so many others in Phoenix and wester-central Arizona.CHAPTER 20: UFO OVER PHOENIXThat evening, things were going as usual, pretty much. At Kaneohe Bay, Amy got back from work and had dinner with Mike while they watched TV.In San Diego, the Joint Recon Study Group members had closed up the office for the night and headed to their homes, families, and friends. Some went for an evening jog around their neighborhood. Some worked out at home or at a gym. Major Valdez was at her daughter's school play. Jim Etienne hit a few golf balls at a driving range near his apartment. But in west central Arizona, something unusual was happening. Driving south on a road near Prescott, retired police officer William "Buck" Baird saw something in the night sky. It was typical dry and clear night in Arizona's central mountains. The evening was dark and quiet. Plenty of stars out tonight....
Phoenix lights UFO - More clues revealed by Steve Hammons Posted: 11:20 March 11, 2010The mystery of the 1997 "Phoenix lights" incident seems to continue. TV shows, films, research articles and other explorations of the case still fascinate us - and still raise many questions. As the 13th anniversary of the strange incident approaches on Saturday, March 13, 2010, it does seem an appropriate time to take a new look at clues about this case. The theory that the Phoenix lights were a U.S. psychological operation of some kind gained new attention late last month when experienced researcher and writer Randall Fitzgerald published a thought-provoking article online titled "Were the 1997 Arizona Lights a psychological warfare experiment?" This unique hypothesis was based on Fitzgerald's two-month fulltime investigation and interviews with more than 50 witnesses in 1997 funded by Reader's Digest magazine.CONFUSING PERCEPTIONSFitzgerald reviewed points that most people are generally aware of. The lights were first seen in southern Nevada in the early evening and then mid-evening across the state line in west-central Arizona, moving in generally a south-southeast direction. The lights were large and bright. They did not resemble normal aircraft lights to many observers. Some witnesses, but not all, saw five lights in a V-shaped formation.Steadily making their way south-southeast, the lights entered the metropolitan Phoenix area in mid-evening and crossed the area diagonally, entering from the northwest and exiting the metro area on the southeast. The lights reportedly continued all the way to Tucson, Sierra Vista and possibly the Mexican border.During this general time frame, out-of-state Air National Guard units training at Luke Air Force base on the western edge of metro Phoenix dropped flares in an area of the Barry M. Goldwater Range. The site of the flare drop was reportedly in an unusually far north part of the range and within sight of metro Phoenix. Many factors in the case led to much speculation then, and over the years.Did people see military flares from the training exercise? Was there something else that was not over the Goldwater Range but was directly over the city and surrounding communities (as well as other parts of Arizona and Nevada)? Were both happening that night? And, if so, was this a coincidence? It seems clear that something apart from the flares did fly directly over Phoenix. Were there five or more individual objects or aircraft? Or, was there one huge object with five or more bright lights on it?This question is a main focus of Fitzgerald's article. Some witnesses saw distinctly separate objects and lights. Others are sure they saw one huge solid craft with multiple lights. Some witnesses thought they saw a translucent aspect of the object where they could see stars or the moon in a hazy and altered way through the craft. Other people said it was so solid that it blocked out the stars. These and other interesting elements led Fitzgerald to speculate that this incident could have been a U.S. psychological operation (PSYOP) of some kind. He wondered in his article if several aircraft could have been equipped with holographic projection equipment that could create the illusion of a large craft. He pointed out that the lights were first seen in the region around Area 51 in southern Nevada and last seen near the Army's Fort Huachuca (a major intelligence facility), southeast of Tucson near the Mexican border."According to many in the know, something physical was in the sky that night, with radar data providing the primary source of evidence. That 'something' entered Mexican airspace and promptly disappeared. Maximum recorded speed was at Mach 1.8 past Tucson nearing Fort Huachuca.""The next day, intelligence units at both Luke and Davis-Monthan were abuzz. No one knew what had occurred, other than something physical was in the sky, an intercept was attempted, and there were thousands of eye-witness accounts (many of these being the flares).""Orders were apparently given for a flare-drop near Phoenix by a unit returning from the Goldwater range. This was considered highly odd to say the least, as that order was given while the main event was unfolding. These aircraft were likely A-10s.""The orders that were given for the flare drop would have had to have been very high up, probably even officers outside the Luke and Davis-Monthan chain of command. For the average intelligence personnel working on the bases, this event was no doubt 'above their pay grade' and security clearance.""The alert aircraft being scrambled is not uncommon. Anytime a small aircraft that is unidentified violates southern Arizona airspace, and does not answer radio hails, we will scramble fighters to intercept and ID the 'bogey.' What was unusual about that night were the contact reports from the first flight, and a second scramble of two additional aircraft. This is simply unheard of in day to day intercepts.""However, I do know that USAF aircraft were chasing down something that night they could not positively ID, either on radar, or visually. Massive electronic interference occurred, knocking out the F-16s BVR (Beyond Visual Range) capability, forcing the fighters to close at short-range. After brief contact, the 'bogey' accelerated close to mach 2, and dashed south-southwest into Mexico," Topol-M/AL said.TRAINING AND PREPAREDNESSSome of the anonymous source's information does seem to dovetail with Randall Fitzgerald's speculation about a U.S. operation of some kind. It also seems to point out that there may have been secrecy about the operation that even excluded Air Force personnel. If it was a PSYOP test of some kind, the experiment seems to have also been planned to explore the reaction of local Air Force bases and units, local public safety officials and the news media (local, national and international) as well as the general public. The idea that this was a planned event to test reactions seems to make sense to some people. The object or objects obviously wanted to be seen or didn't care if it was seen. But why? To see if there was mass panic? To prepare us for something in the future? It's unclear to most people.Because of the many reports of UFOs and related phenomena and activities around the U.S. and around the world, it does seem wise to be prepared for many types of challenging situations that could occur.A worthwhile training source is the well-known firefighter training manual "A Fire Officer's Guide to Disaster Control," published in 1992 by Fire Engineering Books & Videos, written by firefighting experts William M. Kramer and Charles W. Bahme. The authors are highly-trained and experienced. In addition to important and conventional firefighter training, a chapter is included titled "Disaster Control and UFOs." It covers certain risks and dangers associated with UFOs.One section is subtitled "Adverse Potential of UFOs." The authors note that, "The two principal hazards noted with relation to UFOs have been attributed to powerful electrical fields which they can project in a general or localized area and the psychological effects they have produced on the general populace or individual contacts." The authors also explain that "force field impact" can affect the electrical systems of vehicles and aircraft. Disruption of electronic-related communications systems can also occur. They also point out that regional power blackouts have been reported in conjunction with UFO incidents. Kramer and Bahme point out that public panic is also a concern for public safety officials and could be related to some of the other effects. My March 2009, article on these topics, "UFOs and public safety: Firefighter manual explains risks," might be worthwhile reading for those interested in the Phoenix lights case.Because, who knows, we may experience another incident like this in the future - and we should be prepared.
Phoenix Lights Witness Goes Public; Life Changing Experience was Much More Then a UFO Sighting!V-Shaped UFO Over PhoenixBy Scott Petrie© 4-27-10My name is Scott Petrie and I was not just a witness of the "Phoenix Lights" event, but was "hooted out" (for lack of a better phrase) by THEM twice. The first time was the night of the "mass sighting" on March 13th 1997.I was born here in Arizona (Mesa), as was my father. My great-grandfather was Mesa's first Sheriff/Fire Chief/Mortician; I'm now 53 years old, having lived in Tempe (which is sandwiched between Mesa and Phoenix) for the past 30 years. I've been working for SRP for over 25 years now, which is the supplier of water and electricity here in the Phoenix metro area; I went to bible collage up in Colorado and got a degree in biblical studies after high school and went to work for Campus Crusade for Christ International.Andre KoleI was assigned to work with Illusionist "Andre Kole" who also lived here in Tempe. Andre has traveled the world with his full stage productions since the mid 60's and still does to this day. He is one of the most credible debunkers in the world today and his 2-hour long stage performances show the audience how easy it is to fool even the smartest people.Andre has written several books on many subjects and has been a creative consultant for all of David Copperfield's TV specials, as well as other Magician/illusionists like Sigfreid & Roy and Doug Henning. Andre invented most of the classic stage illusions done today.Mind Games By Andre Kole One of his books is called Mind Games, which is a compilation of all the “X-file type” things he has been tasked to investigate. It's difficult to fool an Illusionist at their own game; accordingly, Time Magazine, National Geographic, would pay him; even the Federal Government once paid him to go to the Philippines to debunk the "Psychic Surgeons".I was 21 years old when I started working for Andre and married his daughter (the girl we would make disappear and saw in half each night). After years of doing this show around the world and investigating phenomena wherever we went, whenever we were called in to investigate we could find the trick or gimmick used; from demon possession, communicating with the dead, dematerialization, levitation, mind reading, you name we've investigated it and found explanations each time. I worked with Andre a total of about 8 years and know all the "tricks" including the use of laser projection which we used several times. Now flash forward to almost 20 years later: I've been working the night shift outside for SRP for 10 years; I work on the trucks that Linemen work in all day (bucket trucks) and I do all the welding repairs on them. I was working that Thursday night, March 13th 1997 and was right in the middle of trying to finish the job I was working on before our break time at 9:00 pm, which was about a half an hour away . . . all of a sudden I had a “strong urge” to stop what I was working on, which I tried to fight—this went from “an urge to a command” and I couldn't fight it!As I turned, I said out loud, "WHAT?"(Even though I was working alone). As I stood up and turned 180° to look towards Phoenix, I dropped my tools and to my astonishment when I focused on what was appearing in front of me—there were 3 balls of light of a type and color I will never forget. It was like watching a cartoon as the orbs were lit from within. They were an orange color like “fire with red and yellow churning” inside each one.Once all 7 were lit up one at a time (north to south), they just hung there about 500 feet above the southeastern part of the airport and river bottom. One orb kept getting out of line and zip around and then get back in line again; then they all started moving and went from the semi-circle they had been in for 4 or 5 minutes, they then made a “V-shape” and started to turn southeast in my direction. As the pointed front part of this V swung around, the second it was directed at me, I was "hit" with something that I can only explain as "being scanned.” It instantly knew me and everything about me that second. I was so scared that my "fight or flight" clicked in and I turned and started running away. I didn't get far before I realized that this thing was about 8 or 9 miles away. I turned back and “my fears instantly left” as I watched the V make an elegant banked turn performing a U-turn over The Point South Mountain and glided silently due west, parallel to the South Mountain range, until it got to the end of it, turning left and going behind the range over Rainbow Valley South towards Tucson.Since that night, as the years have gone by, I've been watching the sky every night with nothing to report; then one night in 2008 I'm inside watching TV, when I get the same “command” to go outside and look up—I did, and what I saw flying over at the 12:00 position, right where I was "prompted" to look was a swirling cloud at an extremely high altitude traveling due south. It was swirling like water going down a drain and had a light shining through it from behind, which was dimming on and off as it flew over; it looked like a little "Milky Way Galaxy" flying along, blinking on and off as it passed. It was starting to get farther towards Tucson, but still visible, I said to myself under my breath "well, at least it didn't do anything crazy like zip around " because it was at a constant speed and a constant direction. Just as soon as I finished saying this, it zigzagged back and forth and then continued it's same heading and went out of sight. Both times I've had these sightings I was summoned to watch, and I know that this is only the start of what is going to be seen by all. I know that I've been picked to prepare for their arrival, and I'm getting like Dreyfuss [Close Encounters] lately, going a little bit nuts . . . so says my family and friends. Suffice to say: I know this is the real thing, not our government, not anything from here.Any comments can be made here at The UFO Chronicles, as I keep in touch with Frank (Warren) exclusively; I have grown to trust him above all other professionals in the field. Thanks for reading.
